Action 1: Tell Your Senators to Commit to Eliminating the Filibuster

It’s simple: none of the progressive issues that Democratic candidates and congressional leaders are discussing today will become law unless we do something about the filibuster. If Mitch McConnell expects to be the Grim Reaper of progressive policies, the scythe he’ll use is the Senate filibuster. Unless we change the rules.

Tell your senators to commit to ending the filibuster.

  • Senator Duckworth | DC: 202-224-2854 | Chicago 312-886-3506

  • Senator Durbin | DC: 202-224-2152 | Chicago 312-353-4952

Script: Hi, my name is [NAME] and I’m a constituent from [zip code] and a member of Indivisible. The filibuster rule has done nothing but block progress for years. As someone who cares deeply about a number of issues, I know we have no chance of passing legislation in 2021 with the filibuster in place. Keeping the filibuster is tantamount to giving Mitch McConnell veto power over our agenda. Instead, I hope you’ll do what’s necessary to deliver progressive victories for your supporters and for the country. As a constituent, I ask that you commit to publicly call for the elimination of the filibuster in 2021.

Action 3: Indivisible Chicago Podcast

Every Sunday, Indivisible Chicago members Tom Moss releases a new episode of the Indivisible Chicago Podcast (ICP). It’s a great way to keep up with the latest news about the Indivisible movement on a local level and to stay plugged in to upcoming efforts around the city.

Segment 1: Maybe we shouldn’t try to change people’s minds as much as help ensure their voting behavior aligns with what they already believe.

Segment 2: IC’s Jason Rieger joins to announce Indivisible Chicago’s first-ever endorsement: Marie Newman for Congress in Illinois 3.

Segment 3: Chicago is a little like that member of your family who can’t quite get it together. So much potential, an excellent education, plenty of resources. But so many bad decisions. Ed Zotti is an urban planning reporter and author of the ongoing Chicago at the Crossroads column in the Chicago Sun-Times. Ed joins to discuss what Chicago needs to do to buckle down and make something of itself.
