Thursday, September 12 - Defund Hate / Wisconsin Canvassing / Immigrant Ally Workshop

Actions You Can Take Today

Action 1: Call on Congress to Defund Hate

Indivisible Chicago is joining with organizations that supported our July 13th March and Rally to End Detentions and Welcome Immigrants. We are now asking everyone, whether you were able to attend the July 13th event or not, to call their Members of Congress and Senators and demand that they Defund Hate.

Script: Hi, my name is [NAME] and I’m a constituent from [zip code] and a member of Indivisible. I am calling because I am outraged by how immigrants are being treated by the Trump administration and how Congress is enabling that by increasing funding for ICE and allowing the administration to divert funds. I am looking for [NAME] to resist the Administration and not be complicit in these atrocities towards immigrants. We can all see what is happening at the border and here in Chicago/Illinois -- and it is time for Congress to act to stop it.

I am calling to ask you to Defund Hate by:

(1) voting NO on any budget that includes ANY increase to immigration agencies including Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs & Border Protection (CBP).

(2) Demanding that Congress defund the MPP/Remain in Mexico Program that is denying asylum seekers an opportunity to remain in the U.S. to apply for asylum and is placing vulnerable migrants in even more danger and ensure that all asylum seekers sent back to Mexico are immediately allowed into the U.S.

(3) Ensure that the Administration does not divert funds for its wall or immigration enforcement from other government programs.

If Congress does not act -- then Congress is complicit. I am asking [NAME] to tell us what he/she is going to do to act.

Action 2: Canvass to Flip Wisconsin on 9/14

Join Indivisible Evanston on September 14 as we canvass in Kenosha, WI as part of the WI Dems weekend of action. All predictive lists concur that Wisconsin, with just 10 electoral votes, could easily be the state that determines the 2020 presidential winner.

Sign up for ONE of the four options available for canvassing on Saturday, September 14 from the Kenosha County Dems office, 5712 7th Avenue, Kenosha, WI.

Action 3: Workshop for Allies on Immigrant Rights & Rapid Response on 9/15

Join organizers from Organized Communities Against Deportations, Albany Park Defense Network and PASO - West Suburban Action Project to learn about the threats impacting immigrant communities and how to join the Illinois rapid response network, a network led by local community organizations, allies and directly impacted individuals to respond to ICE activity and deportations. We will have information on how to connect to your local team, and how you can take action with other local, state and federal campaigns!

When: Sunday, September 15 from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Where: Sulzer Regional Library Meeting Rooms (4455 N. Lincoln Avenue)
