Thursday, August 1 - Stop the Graham Anti-Asylum Bill / Indivisible National Call / Rapid Response Workshop

Actions You Can Take Today

Action 1: URGENT - Tell Senator Durbin to Stop the Graham Anti-Asylum Bill

Lindsey Graham introduced the Secure and Protect Act of 2019. This anti-asylum bill seeks to make it much harder for asylum seekers to enter the United States and almost impossible to claim asylum. In addition, it rolls back humanitarian protections for asylum seekers. This is all happening under the guise of “deterrence” but it is all part of a well-oiled machine meant to encourage harsh enforcement techniques while not resolving any of the real issues causing the border crisis.

TODAY, the Senate Judiciary Committee will take action on Graham's anti-asylum bill S.1494. Tell Senator Durbin to vote no on this bill.

Senator Durbin | DC: 202-224-2152 | Chicago 312-353-4952

Script: Hi, my name is [NAME] and I’m a constituent from [zip code] and a member of Indivisible. I’m calling to ask Senator Durbin to vote no on Senator Graham’s anti-asylum bill S.1494. The end goal of this legislation is to completely strip humanitarian protections for immigrants and asylum-seeking newcomers to the United States and to reduce the number of asylum claims allowed. It’s, in essence, a way to subvert our duty to provide a legal process for those fleeing extreme and alarming violence in their home countries to seek refuge in the United States. Will the Senator be voting no?
