Wednesday, July 31 - Phone Bank and Debate Watch Party / Demand Action Against Gun Violence / Ally Workshop

Actions You Can Take Today

Action 1: TONIGHT - Phone Bank and Debate Watch Party

Is it a phone bank? A debate watch? A party? Yes! In fact it’s the Wisconsin Phone Bank Debate Watch Party.

Blue Beginning and Indivisible Chicago are working with the Democratic Party of Wisconsin to contact people who have volunteered for them in the past. We’ll be inviting these folks to attend parties in their home counties, where WisDems will reconnect with them and preview their plans for 2020. As you know, Wisconsin is probably the most important state on the electoral map. This is the first of many projects we’ll be undertaking to help our neighbors win there.

When: TONIGHT, Wednesday, July 31 from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Where: 47th Ward Democrats office (2234 W. Irving Park) and Gideon Welles Pub (4500 N Lincoln Ave)

Action 2: Demand Action Against Gun Violence

The United States has more guns per capita than any other peer nation; Americans constitute about 4% of the world's population but own 42% of all civilian firearms. On average, there is a mass shooting almost every day of the year in the United States, and the nation has far higher rates of gun homicides than any other developed nation. However, thanks to continued lobbying by the National Rifle Association (NRA), Congress has repeatedly failed to take meaningful action and curb gun violence.

America's disproportionately high rates of gun-related deaths are both tragic and shameful. Congress can save lives by passing common-sense legislation to reduce gun violence.

Script: Hi, my name is [NAME] and I’m a constituent from [zip code] and a member of Indivisible. I'm calling to urge [NAME] to take action to reduce the epidemic of gun violence in the United States by...

  • Closing the loophole that lets people buy guns at shows and through private sellers without background checks

  • Instituting universal background checks for ammo and gun buyers, a measure 80% of gun owners support

  • Funding evidence-based community anti-violence programs, like Ceasefire, which have been shown to reduce shootings

  • Reinstating a federal ban on the purchase of high-capacity magazines and military-style assault weapons, which is supported by at least 65% of Americans.

Thank you for your time and attention.
