Wednesday, June 26 - Debate Watch Parties / No War with Iran / July 13 Rally

Actions You Can Take Today

Action 1: Find a Debate Watch Party on June 26-27

In 2017, we made Congress listen. In 2018, we remade Congress. In 2019, we get to hear from an exciting Democratic field of 24 candidates vying for the right to defeat Donald Trump in 2020.

The first debates are scheduled on June 26 and 27. Indivisibles across the country will be gathering in living rooms, restaurants, and bars to cheer on our candidates and push for a nominee who truly represents our values.

Find a local Indivisible debate watch party or host your own and invite your friends!

Action 2: Tell your MoCs: Prevent a New War in Iran

Tensions with Iran are quickly escalating, and Donald Trump and his war cabinet seem to be itching for a new war.

For those who recall the lead-in to the Iraq War, this all probably feels pretty familiar. But history must not repeat itself. It’s essential that Congress use its powers to stop this march to war. Learn more here.

Tell your Member of Congress to co-sponsor H.R. 2354/S.1039 and commit to voting for amendments to must-pass bills such as the National Defense Authorization Act that would prevent a new war with Iran!

Script: Hi, my name is [NAME] and I’m a constituent from [zip code] and a member of Indivisible. I’m very concerned about the possibility of a new war with Iran given recent escalations.

Before Iran shot down a US drone and before the US sent more troops to the region, Trump foolishly violated the nuclear deal, destroying a diplomatic pathway to cut off Iran’s path to a nuclear bomb and provide a framework to build upon with more talks.  Now John Bolton and the war cabinet are escalating tensions. It feels a lot like Iraq War 2.0.

Will [MoC] co-sponsor [H.R. 2354/S.1039] and issue a public statement making clear that Congress has not authorized the use of any military force against Iran? Will they commit to voting for amendments to must-pass bill such as the National Defense Authorization Act that would prevent a new war with Iran? I will be closely watching for [MoC]’s actions on this and following up.

Action 3: Rally to End Criminalization, Detention & Deportations on 7/13

As immigrant families in Chicagoland live in fear that ICE raids will tear their families apart, and children and families are being detained in horrendous and unthinkable conditions at the border, we in Illinois are standing with these communities and sending a message of welcome and support.

Indivisible Chicago, Indivisible Oak Park, lIlinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights, and PASO - West Suburban Action Project are calling on residents to gather on Saturday, July 13 to protest this administration’s inhumane, ruthless treatment of immigrants.

We’ve seen the Department of Justice argue in court that the U.S. Government isn’t required to provide toothbrushes or soap to children in its custody. We’ve seen Trump threaten to arrest millions of immigrants in nationwide raids. We’ve seen family separations continue. It’s time to stand up and say ENOUGH. Join us downtown on Saturday, July 13 and make your voice heard.

When: Saturday, July 13 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Where: Daley Center Plaza (50 W Washington St.)
