Action 2: DUE TODAY - Witness slip roundup
Action 1: Support the License to Work Act (SB 1786)
Nearly 50,000 Illinois licenses are suspended each year because drivers can’t pay tickets, fines, or fees and for other non-moving violations – reasons that have nothing to do with driving.
Driver’s license suspension should be not used to penalize people for their poverty. Transportation is critical for employment and opportunity, and when licenses are taken away from good drivers and workers, we all lose—job seekers, workers, employers, and the taxpayers paying to enforce counterproductive policies.
One way we are working to create change is by building support to pass the License to Work Act (SB 1786), which eliminates driver’s license suspension as a penalty for most non-moving violations.
The License to Work Act would keep Illinoisans on the road so that they can continue to work and support their families. The bill is coming up for an important vote today, so call on your state representative to give their support!
Script: Hi, my name is [NAME] and I’m a constituent from [zip code] and a member of Indivisible. I’m calling to ask [REP] to support the License to Work Act (SB 1786). Stripping people of their licenses causes job loss, creates a burden on the criminal justice system, and disproportionately impacts communities of color. Will [REP] help remedy this by support SB 1786?

Action 2: Sign Urgent Witness Slips Today
Illinois’ unique system of witness slips makes it easy for citizens to weigh in on important bills quickly using an online form. Before a bill is heard in the Illinois General Assembly, the chairperson will read who has submitted witness slips and whether they support or oppose the bill. This helps inform legislators as to where Illinoisans and organizations stand before voting. Witness slips are a great and relatively quick way to make your voice heard in state government.
Here are two important bills collecting witness slips for hearings TODAY!
