Action 1: Commit to Stop Trump in 2020
The Mueller report isn’t going to stop Trump in 2020. Impeachment isn’t going to stop Trump in 2020.
All we have is the hard work we put in. We are what will stop Trump.
We know this is true because it was true in 2018. We put in the work. We knocked on doors and wrote postcards and we won for Sean Casten in IL-6 and we won for Lauren Underwood in IL-14 and we took back the House. From the Governor’s House to the Attorney General to federal races, everywhere we fought, we won.
Take the pledge to do everything you can to win in 2020 and together we will make it happen. Be it canvassing, postcards, phone banking, or donating, together we have the power to restore sanity to Washington and create a more just and progressive country.
Take the pledge. Commit to win in 2020 and we will contact you with volunteer opportunities. We need all hands on deck to stop Trump and the GOP!
Action 2: DEADLINE TODAY - Witness Slips for SB1737
The Senate Education Committee will have a subject matter hearing on SB1737 TODAY! Please help us keep Local School Councils (LSCs) diverse and welcoming by filing a witness slip in support.
SB1737 allows Chicago Public Schools to change the LSC member application process to match that of Level II Volunteers. CPS agreed to make the change last September in response to grassroots advocacy but they said they cannot follow through until state law is amended. SB1737 is an initiative of community organizations. See the attached fact sheet for more information.
LSCs are largely made up of parents and neighbors elected by the school community. LSCs approve the school budget, provide oversight of the principal, and help develop the school-based academic plan.

Action 3: Witness Slips to Control Drug Costs (Deadline Wednesday)
The Illinois General Assembly is holding hearings on three bills this week that could help control drug prices in our state. The hearings are tomorrow, so take a few minutes to fill out witness slips in support today!
HB 53 (Proponent): Makes manufacturers explain why they raise prices. HB53 would require drugmakers to provide justification for price increases above a certain threshold. This mirrors similar legislation passed recently in Oregon, Nevada, Connecticut, and other states.
HB 1441 (Proponent): Allows for importation of safe, low-cost drugs from Canada. Federal law (21 USC 384) allows states to create programs to import safe and affordable drugs from Canada. This proposal, which follows a new law signed in Vermont last year, will direct IDPH to create such a program.
HB 3493 (Proponent): Creates a board to oversee drug price increases. The Illinois Commerce Commission regulates utilities to keep them from abusing their monopoly power and jacking up prices. Similarly, HB 3493 would create a board to regulate drug price increases, so manufacturers can’t take advantage of patent monopolies to raise costs on sick people.
