Action 3: DUE TODAY - Gun Control Witness Slips Due

There are four important gun control bills being considered in the Illinois General Assembly this week, and we need as many people as possible to fill out witness slips to counteract coordinated efforts by the gun lobby.

Before a bill is heard in committee, the chairperson will read who has submitted witness slips and whether they support or oppose the bill. This helps inform legislators as to where Illinoisans and organizations stand before voting.

Please fill out the following slips TODAY before 3 p.m. and tell your friends!

  • HB367 - This bill would roll back portions of the Gun Dealer Certification law (OPPONENT)

  • HB887 - This bill would revoke the FOID card of individuals convicted of stalking (PROPONENT)

  • HB899 - This bill would enhance requirements and accountability around reporting lost and stolen firearms (PROPONENT)

  • HB1490 - This bill would require a signed statement from someone who is holding onto the firearms of someone whose FOID card has been revoked or suspended (PROPONENT)

Witness Slip Instructions:

I. IDENTIFICATION: with your information. In the Firm/Business or Agency Box and in the Title Box, identify as "Self."

II. REPRESENTATION: as "Self" (unless you actually are representing an organization)

III. POSITION: select "Proponent" or “Opponent”

IV. TESTIMONY: select "Record of Appearance Only

New witness slips come up almost every day that the legislature is in session, sometimes only with a few hours’ notice. The best way to keep up with new slips is to join The Witness Slip Project on Facebook. This nonpartisan group features new slips and gives some background on each bill.
