Action 1: Support the Older Americans Act
On September 18, the House Education and Labor Committee unanimously passed H.R. 4334, the Dignity in Aging Act of 2019, out of Committee. This legislation would reauthorize the Older Americans Act (OAA) for five years. The OAA currently provides assistance to 11 million Americans age 60 or over every year. It funds a wide range of popular programs and services that millions of seniors rely upon every day, including Meals on Wheels, transportation services, and part-time job opportunities to support financial security and combat social isolation. For many older individuals, OAA programs are vital to their health, wellbeing, and independence.
H.R. 4334 adds malnutrition screening to the nutrition screening provisions of the OAA, adds reducing malnutrition to the purposes of the nutrition programs, and includes language to focus future efforts on social determinants of health in the senior population. The full House must still consider the bill and the Senate is continuing work on their version of the reauthorization. Tell your rep to support the Older Americans Act (H.R. 4334).
Script: Hi, my name is [NAME] and I’m a constituent from [zip code] and a member of Indivisible. I’m calling on [NAME] to support H.R. 4334, the Dignity in Aging Act of 2019, which would reauthorize the Older Americans Act (OAA) for five years. Vital programs like Meals on Wheels rely on funding from this program, and it must be renewed now with additional funding for nutrition screening. Thank you.

As all Big Ten football fans know, nothing is more important for Michigan teams than establishing the ground game.
On Saturday, October 19, come help us launch Indivisible Chicago’s ground game in a state that will be pivotal to the outcome of the 2020 Presidential election. We will be canvassing for Democratic Congressional candidate Jon Hoadley, who is challenging a 17-term Republican incumbent in Michigan’s 6th Congressional District.
Indivisible members will be canvassing in the town of New Buffalo, close to the State line and a little over a 1-hour drive from downtown Chicago.
Indivisible Lincoln Square is organizing carpools for canvassers, departing from the north Chicago gathering site at 8 a.m. Please sign up so that we can be sure to have enough drivers. Action 3: Phone Bank for a Fair Impeachment Trial in Senate
The Mueller report confirmed what we already knew: Trump abused his authority, violated the law, and tried repeatedly to obstruct justice. Now, Trump has been accused by multiple whistleblowers of asking leaders of foreign governments to interfere with our election system by digging up dirt on his political opponents. Donald Trump is a criminal. These activities are impeachable offenses. And he himself has admitted to them, openly, on camera.
Nancy Pelosi has announced that a formal impeachment inquiry is underway, but our work is far from over to ensure Trump is held accountable for his numerous crimes. It's absolutely essential that the Senate holds an open and transparent impeachment trial that allows for the full array of evidence to be presented and considered -- but Mitch McConnell is the one who gets to set the rules for the trial -- and frankly, we don't trust him to do it fairly. That's why we've got to demand that Senators publicly support a fair and open impeachment trial. Use this form to sign up for a shift making calls to voters in key areas to connect them directly to their Senators to make this important ask.
You can volunteer from anywhere, and we'll follow up and make sure you have everything you need to contact voters once you sign up. In order to volunteer, folks will need access to a computer or tablet to log in to our remote phone-banking system as well as a phone to actually make the calls. RSVP for one or multiple shifts -- any amount of time you can commit to calling makes a real difference in this critical fight to protect our democracy.
