Action 1: Thank Senators for Insisting on a Vote to Reopen the Government

This ridiculous shutdown has gone on too long and cost this country far too much. Mitch McConnell can help reopen the government at any time by bringing the bill that the House passed last week to a vote in the Senate. The Senate itself passed a similar bill right before the shutdown, so there’s no reason why McConnell would hold back on another vote--except that he is scared of Donald Trump.

Yesterday, Senators Durbin and Duckworth did their part to end this madness. They have committed to making sure that the Senate doesn’t take up any other business while 800,000 government workers are not getting paid. They will vote against all motions to proceed until the bipartisan bills passed by the House to reopen the government are voted on by the Senate. Call them to say thanks!

Senator Duckworth | DC: 202-224-2854 | Chicago 312-886-350
Senator Durbin | DC: 202-224-2152 | Chicago 312-353-4952

Script: Hi, my name is [NAME] and I’m a constituent from [zip code] and a member of Indivisible. I’m calling to thank [Senator] for commiting to put a halt to all business in the Senate until the Senate votes on the bipartisan bills passed by the House to reopen the government. I hope [he/she] continues to stand strong against the GOP’s irrational demands for an unnecessary wall while keeping 800,000 Americans from getting paid. Thank you.

Action 2: TOMORROW - AFGE Rally to End the Government Shutdown

The wasteful and shameful government shutdown is now in its third miserable week. The shutdown has already caused needless suffering for federal employees and their families, many of whom live paycheck-to-paycheck and have already fallen behind on their rent, mortgage payments, or bills. As the shutdown continues, vital public services will come to a halt, creating an exponential increase in the cruel effects of the shutdown.

THIS NEEDS TO END.  Please come and show your support on Thursday for these employees and to call for an immediate end to the government shutdown!
