Action 1: Tell Congress to Reject SNAP Cuts

The House and Senate have both approved their own versions of a Farm Bill. While the Senate version preserves access to vital SNAP benefits, the House version proposes harmful cuts to SNAP – a critical program that helps children, seniors, and working families. Throughout September, a Conference Committee of Representatives and Senators will negotiate a Farm Bill the Senate and the House can agree on. They’ve set a goal of passing a Farm Bill by September 30.

Now is the time to tell our Members of Congress: Vote NO on any Farm Bill that cuts access to SNAP!

SNAP is the most important program fighting hunger in the United States. In Illinois, about 1.9 million people depend on SNAP to feed themselves and their families. Most of Illinois’ SNAP recipients who can work, do work. Punitive policies and cuts to this program won’t help people struggling to find work and make ends meet. We need a Farm Bill that helps people in our community facing hunger.

  • Call Senator Duckworth | DC: 202-224-2854 | Chicago 312-886-3506

Script: Hi, my name is {NAME} and I'm a constituent in the {ZIP CODE} and member of Indivisible. As your constituent, I urge you to protect SNAP by supporting the Senate SNAP provisions of the bill and reject any Farm Bill that imposes cuts to SNAP. SNAP provides nutritious food to 40 million Americans, 1.9 million of whom live in Illinois. I’m counting on [Congress member's name] to pass a strong Farm Bill that protects and strengthens federal nutrition programs  to make sure no American goes hungry.
