Monday, August 6 - Help Fund DACA Renewals / Safe Zones Rally / Indivisible Chicago Podcast

Actions You Can Take Today

Action 1: Help Fund DACA Renewals Before August 8

Protection for All Movement is an undocumented-led group of Chicago volunteers organizing to raise funds for the renewal fees of DACA recipients. Their goal is to help DACA recipients who currently qualify for renewal but do not have the funds to cover the renewal fee of $495.

We are days away from August 8, when Judge Hanen will issue a preliminary injunction hearing in Texas v. Nielsen. Although we do not know if Judge Hanen will issue a preliminary injunction challenging the DACA program on that day, organizations are urging DACA recipients whose DACA will expire in 2018 or 2019, to renew before August 8, 2018.

Allies, we need your help. Your donation will help current DACA recipients in Illinois, prioritizing DACA recipients in the Chicagoland area, facing this SUDDEN financial hardship to apply for renewal of a two-year work permit and reprieve from deportation. All donations will ONLY go towards application processing fees.

Please donate if you have the means to help DACA recipients cover the cost of their permit renewal before August 8 to avoid deportation.

Action 2:  Safe Zones Rally on 8/8

We are running out of time on the Immigration Safe Zones Act (SB 35)!

Governor Rauner only has until August 28 to say whether he will veto or sign the bill. We have heard rumors that he won't, and we want to make sure he is listening to us. If Governor Rauner cares about the safety of our communities, he must sign the Safe Zones Act, NOW!

Join us for a rally on August 8 to show your support for this bill.

When: Wednesday, August 8 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Where: James R. Thompson Center (100 W Randolph St.)

RSVP and share on Facebook

This week, Tom goes on the record with journalist and journalism professor Jeff Favre. They talk about the state of the news media in the age of Fake News, the security of journalists, and more. Then: Paul Kendrick has a lot of experience organizing people to get out the vote. This week, learn how you can get involved with one of the few actions we know for a fact works—knocking on doors and talking to voters.
