Actions You Can Take Today

Action 1: Call on Senators to Defund DHS

The Department of Homeland Security is the Trump administration's key tool for terrorizing immigrants. It's responsible for the heinous displays happening in immigration courts, shamelessly separating families at the border, abusing children, and persecuting immigrant communities throughout the country with warrantless searches.

The hallmark of the Trump presidency has been a rabid anti-immigration agenda, and no federal agency is as directly involved with carrying out these cruel policies as DHS. Together with its sub-agencies ICE and Customs and Border Protection, DHS is inflicting irreparable damage on immigrant communities. In the past year alone, they've harmed thousands of children who might never recover from the psychological torture of family separation.

This is all happening on our dime.

Congress will vote on a new budget very soon, and President Trump has requested $23+ billion of our taxpayer dollars for this morally corrupt agency – including resources to put tens of thousands of children and their parents in family prison camps. Tell your senators that you refuse to send your taxpayer money to fund hate.

Call Senator Duckworth | DC: 202-224-2854 | Chicago 312-886-3506
Call Senator Durbin | DC: 202-224-2152 | Chicago 312-353-4952

Script: Hi, my name is {NAME} and I'm a constituent in the {ZIP CODE} and member of Indivisible. I'm calling to ask {SENATOR} to make sure my taxpayer money is not used to fund the Department of Homeland Security as it continues to detain families, abuse immigrant children, and unleash ICE to terrorize communities. I’m calling on {SENATOR} to defund DHS now. Thank you.

Action 3: Support Starve4Change to End Gun Violence

Two young members of Chicago Strong are going on a hunger strike for a whole week to shine light on issues that contribute to gun violence in inner-cities as well as our nation in general.

Chicago Strong is a coalition of students from Chicago committed to being part of the solution to end gun violence in our city. Their goal is to unite our city and to make it a safe and equitable place for all its residents.

Too many people are shot and killed in our city each week, but these stories only rarely gain national attention. The brave folks of the Starve4Change campaign need America to hear these voices--because Chicago's problems are America's problems.
