Action 1: Call on MoC to Fight the Trump Tax Scam Part 2

Yesterday, congressional Republicans released the outline of their plan to pass “Round 2” of the TrumpTax.

How is “Round 2” different than “Round 1,” which added $1.9 trillion in tax cuts for wealthy corporations and individuals and ripped health care away from 13 million Americans, you may ask?

Well. This time, the GOP wants to make tax breaks for the rich permanent -- and fund them with cuts to programs that benefit working Americans, like Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security.

It’s really amazing that House Republicans are doubling down on their tax scam right now, because “Round 1” is already a total disaster. Wages are down, stock buybacks are up, and many of the country’s wealthiest corporations have announced layoffs as they pocket billions in tax giveaways.Even worse, Republicans are already using the debt they ran up the first time around to justify proposals to cut vital programs like Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security.

We have to fight back -- Call your members of Congress right now and tell them you won’t accept even ONE MORE PENNY in tax cuts for the rich.

Script: Hi, my name is {NAME} and I'm a constituent in the {ZIP CODE} and member of Indivisible. I’m calling to express my concern about House Republicans' efforts to give another round of tax breaks to the rich. Despite overwhelming objections from voters in Illinois, Republicans passed the GOP's tax scam bill last year, giving massive tax cuts to the rich and wealthy corporations, while raising health care premiums, and threatening Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. By any measurement, that tax bill has been a complete and utter failure for Illinoisans like me. It is outrageous that House Republicans are now saying that they want to do it again. Please do what's right for your constituents and oppose giving even one penny more in tax cuts to the rich.

Action 2: TOMORROW - Protest Peter Roskam Outside His Debate

Rep. Peter Roskam and Democratic challenger, Sean Casten, will debate at the Union League Club on July 26, which is hosted by Fox 32 and the Lincoln Forum. Limited tickets sold out in 2 minutes flat.

Please join us outside on the sidewalk (directly across the street) for a civil, peaceful, protest of Peter Roskam's votes to take healthcare away from 700,000 in Illinois while adding $1,700,000,000,000 to the national debt in order to give large corporations (his donors) and billionaires (his donors) tax cuts they don't need.

The doors open at 5 p.m., so that's when we'll start our peaceful action. Signs are welcome, and we encourage you to make them about issues and his voting record rather than personal attacks.

When: Thursday, July 26 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Where: Union League Club of Chicago (65 W Jackson Blvd)

Action 3: Peace in the Preserves on 8/3

Please join the Northwest Side Coalition Against Racism & Hate for a free, family-friendly event -- Peace In The Preserves: A Community Call to Reject Racism and Celebrate Diversity -- in response to the hate crime that occurred at Caldwell Woods on Chicago’s far northwest side last month.

The Peace in the Preserves event will feature family-friendly activities, speakers, music, and beverages for purchase. The event will culminate with a community-wide call for unity, celebration of cultural diversity, and rejection of racism. The Forest Preserves of Cook County, a sponsoring organization for this event, will host activities for families/children including free face painting, “tree cookie” painting to create a “Peace Tree,” and guided nature play. There will also be a performance by the Jesse White Tumblers, sponsored by Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White.

Proceeds from fundraising efforts will benefit a GoFundMe created by The Puerto Rican Agenda of Chicago for Hurricane Maria relief work.

When: Friday, August 3 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
