Action 1: Call for Congress to pass the Equality Act

Yesterday, the Supreme Court reversed the Masterpiece Cakeshop v. Colorado decision based on concerns specific to the case. But importantly, the Court recognized that the Constitution doesn't give businesses open to the public the right to discriminate.

People are already saying today's decision means that businesses can turn away LGBT people. It doesn't. And our laws should make crystal clear that no business has the right to discriminate against customers based on sexual orientation or gender identity.

That's why we need to support the historic Equality Act in Congress. If passed, the bill would protect LGBT people-–as well as people of all races, genders, and creeds-–from discrimination in key areas of life.

Tell Congress right now: pass the Equality Act and make sure that nobody is subjected to the discrimination and pain that Charlie and Dave felt when they were turned away at Masterpiece Cakeshop.

Call Senator Duckworth | DC: 202-224-2854 | Chicago 312-886-3506
Call Senator Durbin | DC: 202-224-2152 | Chicago 312-353-4952

Script: Hi, my name is {NAME} and I'm a constituent in the {ZIP CODE} and member of Indivisible. I'm calling on [MoC] to pass the Equality Act, which will ensure comprehensive protection for LGBT people from discrimination in employment, housing, education, and access to public spaces. The Equality Act would ensure all people have the rights they deserve-–for the first time ever. Thank you for your time.

Action 2: Call on Rauner to Protect IL Healthcare

Thanks to everyone’s calls, visits to legislators, emails, and social media posts, both HB 4165 (the Do No Harm Healthcare Act) and HB 2624 (the Short Term Limited Duration Health Care Act) are headed to Governor Rauner’s Desk, after passing both houses last week!

HB 4165 gives the IL General Assembly the power to provide a critical check and balance to stop any attempts to weaken or reduce healthcare in Illinois.

HB 2624 will help protect consumers by restricting and monitoring short-term health plans sold in Illinois as well as eliminating confusion for those who buy these plans.

In total, these bills will help strengthen healthcare access for Illinois residents. Join us in asking Governor Rauner to sign these bills into law.

Call Gov. Rauner | Springfield Office 217-782-0244 | Chicago Office 312-814-2121

Script: Hi. My name is _____ and I’m a constituent from [ZIP CODE]. I’m calling to ask Governor Rauner to sign HB 4165 (the Do No Harm Healthcare Act) and HB 2624 (the Short Term Limited Duration Health Care Act). Illinois residents need these bills to safeguard healthcare access and ensure transparency in short-term health plans. Thank you.
