Action 1:  Call on MoC to Support the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program.

Today is World Refugee Day -- and now more than ever, it’s crucial that we take action to support the refugee community.

After a tumultuous year of executive orders and travel bans, it’s critical that Members of Congress do everything within their power to protect the American tradition of offering safe haven to those fleeing war and persecution.

As we commemorate the strength and courage of refugees, join thousands across the nation in flooding Washington D.C. with calls in support of refugees.

Call Senator Duckworth | DC: 202-224-2854 | Chicago 312-886-3506

Script: Hi, my name is {NAME} and I'm a constituent in the {ZIP CODE} and member of Indivisible.  I’m calling in support of the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program.

I’m concerned by the steep decline in refugee arrivals, especially in light of the growing global refugee crisis, and want to see the U.S. resettle more refugees. In addition to pressuring the administration to pick up the pace of resettlement, I urge Congress to support a refugee admissions goal of 75,000 and robust funding for refugee resettlement for Fiscal Year 2019.

Action 2: Tell Rauner to Refuse to Send the National Guard to the Border

So far, eight Governors have taken a moral stand against the Trump administration’s inhumane policy of separating children from their families as they cross the border. According to the New York Times, “Many of the governors opposed to sending troops were Democrats, from states including New York, North Carolina and Virginia. But two Republican governors who face re-elections this fall in Maryland and Massachusetts also reversed their plans.”

Although Governor Rauner says that he opposes the family separation policy, he has not yet committed to refusing to deploy National Guard troops. Call on Rauner to take a stand on this issue today.

Call Gov. Rauner | Springfield Office 217-782-0244 | Chicago Office 312-814-2121

Script: Hi, my name is {Name} and I’m calling from [Zip Code]. I’m calling to ask Governor Rauner to join Governor Baker of Massachusetts by instructing the National Guard to not deploy to the US-Mexican border. The National Guard cannot and should not be used to further assist in enforcing Trump’s zero tolerance policy.

I am also calling on the Governor to commit to signing an executive order similar to Governor Hickenlooper of Colorado prohibiting any state resources from being used to assist with family separation. Although this is largely ceremonial, the Governor should take a moral stand on this issue. Thank you.

Thanks to Shannon Coulter at Grab Your Wallet and Sleeping Giants, we now know the name of yet another contractor that helping enact Trump’s family separation policy: Trailboss Inc. Trailboss is transporting children who have been ripped from their parents and taken to prison camps.

It’s time to make these folks work for their paycheck and make our voices heard. Here is the contact info for their PR team. Send them a polite, but firm email or phone call to say that their support for these child prison camps is intolerable and immoral.

Email template/phone script:

Hello,

It has come to my attention that your business is transporting immigrant children to jails.

They are children and asylum seekers. They should not be separated from their parents and they shouldn't be in internment camps.

Please ask your leadership to back out of this contract as there is no way to justify this.

Thanks,

[You]
