Friday, June 15 - Peace March and Rally / Canvass in IL6 / Postcards to Get Out the Vote in IL6

Hi all -

Just a quick note before we get to the actions. There have been many questions as to what we can do about the Separate of Families at the border. We are all trying to figure out what we can do to make a big impact and we have been in discussions with the ACLU over the last week  about different ideas. For now, please take a look at this action from Monday suggesting several different places you can donate to help those seeking asylum and to protect the civil rights of those being detained. The other thing you can do from now until this is done is call Senators Durbin and Duckworth. Thank them for signing onto Senator Feinstein's bill and speaking on the floor, but ask them to do more. Ask them to help shine a light on these kids being detained in a very public way and not let this issue fade from the news. Ask them to fight harder.

  • Senator Duckworth | DC: 202-224-2854 | Chicago 312-886-3506
  • Senator Durbin | DC: 202-224-2152 | Chicago 312-353-4952

Ultimately, we need to vote out this Congress that is allowing this to continue. To join us in fighting to take back the House, we will be meeting at Bar Louie Printers Row on Tuesday, June 19th from 6-7:30pm. Hope to see you all there.

In Solidarity,
Jason Rieger
Director, Indivisible Chicago

Action 2: TOMORROW - Canvass in IL6

Sean Casten is running for Congress in the IL 6th Congressional district to unseat current incumbent Peter Roskam.

Sean, a scientist and successful renewable energy entrepreneur, is much more in tune with his district than the incumbent Congressman Peter Roskam, who has not held a public town hall with his constituents in 10 years. Roskam is the 4th most senior GOP Congressional leader and was one of the principal architects of the recent regressive tax cut legislation.

In the 2016 election, Hillary Clinton won this District by 7 points, so there is hope that Sean will be successful in unseating Roskam. The DCCC has identified this race is one of their top 10 Red to Blue races in the country and are actively supporting his campaign.

Help get out the vote in IL 6 with a canvassing session in Hinsdale this Saturday, June 16!

  • First time canvassers will arrive at 9:30 a.m. at the McDonald's Restaurant at 935 N. York Road in Hinsdale for an orientation on the deep canvassing approach.

  • If you have already gone out deep canvassing previously, you can arrive at 10 a.m.

  • We will canvass from about 10:20 a.m. to 1 p.m., and we will conclude with a 20 minute evaluation.

  • We will organize separate carpools from the city for the 9:30 am group and the 10:00 am group.
