Wednesday, June 13 - Canvass in IL6 / Term Limit the Mayor / Men’s Health(care) Week

Actions You Can Take Today

Action 1: Canvass in IL6 on Saturday, June 16

Sean Casten is running for Congress in the IL 6th Congressional district to unseat current incumbent Peter Roskam.

Sean, a scientist and successful renewable energy entrepreneur, is much more in tune with his district than the incumbent Congressman Peter Roskam, who has not held a public town hall with his constituents in 10 years.  Roskam is the 4th most senior GOP Congressional leader and was one of the principal architects of the recent regressive tax cut legislation.

In the 2016 election, Hillary Clinton won this District by 7 points, so there is hope that Sean will be successful in unseating Roskam. The DCCC has identified this race is one of their top 10 Red to Blue races in the country and are actively supporting his campaign.

Action 2: Gather Petition Signatures to Term-Limit the Mayor

Take Charge Chicago is a referendum movement organized to open up the doors of City Hall and let the people in by limiting all mayors to two terms. Take Charge Chicago petition-passers come from all parts of the city and aim to gather signatures in every single neighborhood.

A leader of Take Charge Chicago is Pat Quinn. According to the Chicago Tribune, Quinn is pushing for term limits for Chicago mayors to “even the playing field for mayoral challengers who now face the daunting disadvantage of competing against incumbents who can raise massive amounts of campaign money, a strength of the vaunted Emanuel political machine.”

Quinn’s group is trying to get at least 100,000 signatures by August 6 to to put this referendum on the ballot. They’re already halfway there, but they need our help.

Find out how you can gather signatures to help impose term limits for Chicago’s mayor!

Action 3: Men’s Health(care) Week

Every year leading up to Father's Day, Men's Health Week brings attention to the health issues that men face across the world.

And this year, the Trump administration decided to mark the week by imperiling more than 130 million Americans who have pre-existing conditions -- including 66 million men. The GOP has made it clear that they'll stop at nothing to sabotage Americans' access to quality health care -- and men's health care is no exception.

This week, help us highlight a few facts about men's health -- and demand that Republicans work to protect access to quality, affordable health care for all Americans.
