Friday, May 4 - Farm Bill / ERA Rally

Actions You Can Take Today

  • Action 1: Call on Representatives to vote no on the Farm Bill (HR 2) as written

  • Action 2: RSVP for a free shuttle bus to the ERA Rally and Lobby Day in Springfield on Tuesday, May 8 at 7 a.m. (RSVP deadline is TODAY, May 4 at 5 p.m.)

Action 1: Tell Reps to Vote No on a Farm Bill that Cuts Food Benefits

The Farm Bill is a $100 billion piece of legislation that must be reauthorized every five years, and covers everything from farm subsidies and agricultural programs to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, or food stamps).

No surprise, Republicans passed a partisan bill out of committee that takes away food assistance from people and instead funds unproven, unscalable job training programs that will leave people hungry. The full House will vote on the Farm Bill (HR 2) the week of May 14.

Tell your Representative to vote no on the bill as written and demand that all funding to SNAP be restored.

Find your Representative

Script: Hi, my name is {NAME} and I'm a constituent in the {ZIP CODE} and member of Indivisible.  I’m calling to ask [MoC] to vote no on the Farm Bill (HR 2) because of the changes the GOP has made to SNAP funding. The Farm Bill should not result in more citizens going hungry. Please pledge to vote no on this bill until the SNAP funds are restored. Thank you.

Action 2: ERA Rally and Lobby Day in Springfield on 5/8

How would you like to be a part of making sure the Equal Rights Amendment finally gets ratified? If Illinois ratifies the ERA, only ONE more state would need to ratify in order for it to be amended into the U.S. Constitution.

NOW is the time to ensure these 24 words become law: "Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex."
