Friday, May 18 - Net Neutrality Bill in IL / Let America Vote+Indivisible Chicago Voting Rights House Party

Actions You Can Take Today

Action 1: Tell State Reps to Preserve Net Neutrality

On Wednesday, the U.S. Senate voted to reverse a rollback of net neutrality rules pushed by the Trump dominated FCC. Without these rules, large cable and internet providers can regulate how quickly information moves around the internet — to enhance their profits. Information can be allowed to move faster or slower, sites can easily load or be blocked, and some information can be given preference based on money or ideology.

While the U.S. Senate voted to reverse the Trump administration's repeal of net neutrality, we cannot depend on Donald Trump to sign that bill into law. And that is why it is so important to continue fighting for net neutrality at the state level, and why we need your continued help to fight for net neutrality in Illinois.

Luckily, House Bill 4819, a measure to protect net neutrality and advance free speech, is moving forward in Illinois. You can join the fight to protect net neutrality by calling your state representative to vote in favor of House Bill 4819.

Find your state representatives.

Script: Hi, my name is {NAME} and I'm a constituent in {ZIP CODE} and member of Indivisible. I’m calling on [Rep] to vote yes on HB 4819, a bill to protect net neutrality in Illinois. The concept of an open internet is in peril on the federal level, and I’m counting on [Rep] to fight back in Illinois. Thank you.

Action 2: Let America Vote/Indivisible Chicago Voting Rights House Party TOMORROW

Extreme voter suppression laws that disproportionately impact people based on their race or ethnicity, gender, age, or income have started popping up all over the country. If we don’t fight back, more and more Americans will become disenfranchised.

Indivisible Chicago is partnering with Let America Vote to help support the fight for voting rights here in Illinois. Join us for a house party in the Chicago neighborhood of Andersonville tomorrow, on Saturday, May 19 at 1 p.m. where we will discuss Let America Vote and what you can do to help. Jason Kander, President of Let America Vote (and Indivisible Chicago Summit keynote speaker) will call in and speak to our team as well!

We will use this casual environment to discuss voting rights and what it means to each of us and get everyone involved in the fight. Refreshments will be provided.

As this is a private residence, the exact address will be given once each person is signed up.

Space is limited to the first 40 people, so please sign up here.

When:  Saturday, May 19 from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.
