Action 1: Tell Senators to Protect Robert Mueller

As Robert Mueller’s investigation gets closer to Trump’s inner circle, the special investigation is under even more threats of sabotage from the President. Congress must act to protect Mueller and the investigation.

Last week, Senators Cory Booker (D-NJ), Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), Chris Coons (D-Del.), and Thom Tillis (R-N.C.), introduced the Special Counsel Independence and Integrity Act.
According to VoteSmart.org, the bill does the following:

  • Codifies existing Department of Justice regulations to ensure that the Special Counsel can only be fired for good cause by a senior Justice Department official, and the reason must be provided in writing.

  • Provides the Special Counsel a 10-day window in which he can seek expedited judicial review of his removal to determine whether the firing was for good cause. If the firing is ultimately determined to have violated the good-cause requirement, the removal will not take effect.

  • Preserves the staffing, documents, and materials of the investigation while the matter is pending.

Yesterday, Mitch McConnell said that he refused to put the bill on the Senate floor, saying, “This is a piece of legislation that isn't necessary in my judgment."

The threat to the investigation is real, and Senators must stand up and demand that this bill be allowed for a vote.

Call Senator Duckworth | DC: 202-224-2854 | Chicago 312-886-3506
Call Senator Durbin | DC: 202-224-2152 | Chicago 312-353-4952

Script: Hi, my name is {NAME} and I'm a constituent in the {ZIP CODE} and member of Indivisible. I’m calling on [Senator]  to support the bipartisan Special Counsel Independence & Integrity Act, which and would protect Special Counsel Mueller from being fired by Donald Trump. Although McConnell has refused to bring this bill to the floor, I urge [Senator] to speak out strongly and demand a vote. Thank you.

Action 2: TOMORROW - Rally to Defend Bail Reform in Cook County

Thousands of people are locked up before trial simply because they are too poor to afford bail. Cook County has made progress in decreasing the number of people incarcerated before trial through Chief Judge Evans' affordable bail order, but Sheriff Tom Dart is attacking and defying this order. He has publicly spoken out against releasing people accused of violent crimes and gun possession, even though these defendants are innocent until proven guilty. And he has refused to release some defendants that judges have ordered released on electronic monitoring.

Tomorrow, on April 19, a lawsuit is moving forward against Sheriff Dart for his inexcusable behavior in refusing to release defendants that judges have ordered released prior to trial. Join the Chicago Community Bond Fund, The People’s Lobby, and other organizations in supporting this lawsuit and defending bail reform from Sheriff Dart's attacks.

When: TOMORROW, Thursday, April 19 from 8:15 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.
Where: 219 S. Dearborn St.
