Thursday, March 8 - Dream Act Now / VoteOR Event / Gun Violence Congressional Democratic Forum

Actions You Can Take Today

Action 1: Tell Your Reps We Won't Rest Until They Pass the Dream Act

Thousands of lives have been turned upside down because of the mess Donald Trump created when he unnecessarily ended the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program back in September 2017. As a result, the lives of 800,000 DACA recipients are now in grave risk. Since his declaration, 122 DACA recipients have been losing their protections every single day.

Although the Supreme Court recently upheld a ruling that will allow DACA recipients to reapply for legal status until Congress acts on the issue, those who have lost their status are still at risk of deportation. We must end the pain that these families are going through and keep pushing Congress to pass a clean Dream Act.

Script: Hi, my name is [NAME] and I’m a Chicago constituent from [zip code] and member of Indivisible. I’m calling today to ask {PERSON} to support a clean DREAM Act and reject any demands to include massive, unnecessary spending on border security to the bill.

Dreamers are not a bargaining chip to be used to advance Trump's racist policies. Every Congressional leader AND Trump himself say they support keeping Dreamers in America because it's the only home they've ever known; Congress must keep the promise that we made to Dreamers when DACA was first started. I ask that {PERSON} vote to permanently protect them from deportation and oppose the family ban, more ICE agents, and the border wall. Thank you for your hard work answering the phones.

Action 2: VoteOR Event on Saturday

Voter turnout in 2018 is breaking records all over the country, and we want to make sure Chicago turns out strong. Join the Young Urban Progressives to help get out the vote at a rally this Saturday.

Action 3: Gun Violence Congressional Democratic Forum

Join Indivisible Oak Park Area, Indivisible: IL-7 Near West Side, and many other groups at a forum on gun violence -- a critical opportunity for the IL 7th Congressional District community to hear from Democratic candidates broadly on the topic and related issues before the Democratic Primary on March 20th.

Both Democratic candidates are invited: Anthony V. Clark and Danny K. Davis. The event is free and open to the public.
