Actions You Can Take Today

Action 1: Marshal for the March for Our Lives

The young adults of Parkland, Florida continue to inspired us with their bravery and their activism in the face of overwhelming tragedy. Their courage is building a movement for gun control across the country.

At the March for Our Lives on Saturday, March 24, we all have the chance to rally in support of their movement and in support for all of the Americans whose lives have been shattered by gun violence.

In addition to marching to combat school shootings, we will march for Chicago communities of color whose gun violence narratives have been silenced for decades. Given the relevance of gun violence prevention for our city’s black and brown communities, the Chicago event will carry a heightened significance in pushing legislators to craft policy that addresses not only mass shootings but systemic gun violence in minority communities. This is an inclusive endeavor. This is everyone's movement.

Gather is currently recruiting volunteer marshals for the event. Anyone can be a marshal--all it takes is one easy training session. Sign up now to show your support for the Parkland youth and gun violence victims everywhere.

Action 2: Call on Governor Rauner to Sign SB 1657

The landmark Gun Dealer Licensing Act has passed through the Illinois House with strong bipartisan support. This lifesaving bill is now on the governor’s desk!

This historic victory will help stop illegal firearms from flowing into communities across Illinois. All that is left is for Governor Rauner to sign this bill into law. He is receiving pressure from the NRA to veto, so we need to keep his phone ringing with our calls.
