Thursday, February 15 - Phone Bank for the Dream Act / Support Gun Dealer Licensing / Indivisible Chicago Podcast Live Recording

Actions You Can Take Today

Action 1: Phone Bank for the Dream Act ALL WEEK

DACA expires in less than ONE MONTH on March 5. Now is the time to make a critical push to protect more than 800,000 people from deportation from the only country they have ever known. The time to pass the Dream Act is NOW.

Please help the effort by making phone calls to voters in key states to ask them to contact their lawmakers on this vital issue. There are phone bank sessions in the coming days:

Please bring your cell phone and headphones and if possible, a laptop/tablet (this makes it easier to read the call script). Charging cables or extra battery packs are recommended!

Action 2: Tell State Reps to Support Gun Dealer Licensing

After yesterday’s tragic school shooting in Florida, the eighth so far this year, many of us our wondering what steps we can take to fight this endless cycle of senseless violence. In Illinois, we have a real chance to make an impact. The Illinois House will soon be voting on a bill that would help reduce gun crime in our state. Senate Bill 1657, Gun Dealer Licensing, would require employees of gun shops to undergo background checks, allow law enforcement to inspect gun shops, and require video security for gun shops to prevent theft. This bill would stem the flow of illegal guns in our state. Illinois NEEDS statewide gun dealer licensing.

Find your state House Representative and call to tell them to vote “yes” on SB 1657.

Script: Hi, my name is _____ and my zip code is _____.  I'm calling to urge Representative ______ to vote YES on SB1657. This Act will help reduce gun crime in Illinois. Illinois needs statewide gun dealer licensing. Thank you.
