Action 1: Phone Bank for the Dream Act ALL WEEK
DACA expires in less than ONE MONTH on March 5. Now is the time to make a critical push to protect more than 800,000 people from deportation from the only country they have ever known. The time to pass the Dream Act is NOW.
Please help the effort by making phone calls to voters in key states to ask them to contact their lawmakers on this vital issue. There are phone bank sessions happening all week:
Please bring your cell phone and headphones and if possible, a laptop/tablet (this makes it easier to read the call script). Charging cables or extra battery packs are recommended!
Action 2: Sign the Witness Slip for HB 4286
Increasingly, police departments are deploying military tactics, and military weapons, against citizens. This violence disproportionately affects people of color. Military weapons do not make our streets safer, and there is no place for them in law enforcement.
Representative Will Guzzardi has introduced HB 4286, the Law Enforcement Agency Military Equipment Purchase Act. This law will place limits on local communities participating in a military equipment surplus programs operated by the federal government. This piece of legislation has not received a lot of attention, and could use some support.
