Action 1: Phone Bank for the Georgia Special Election
Election season isn’t over yet! Former U.S. Rep. John Barrow (D) and state Rep. Brad Raffensperger (R) advanced to a runoff on December 6 to replace incumbent Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp (R), who ran for governor.
We saw first hand the importance of Georgia’s Secretary of State when Brian Kemp worked to actively disenfranchise voters, leading to Kemp’s winning the governorship. Let’s help bring a Democrat to the position of SoS and restore voting rights in Georgia by calling eligible voters.
Action 2: Tell Senators to Vote No on Neomi Rao
Last week, Trump nominated conservative lawyer and anti-regulation advocate Neomi Rao to fill Brett Kavanaugh’s vacated DC Circuit seat, which is regarded as the second most important court behind the Supreme Court. Currently, Rao is heading the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA), where she has been described as an ally to the administration in stripping away federal government protections and regulations. On the Circuit Court, it is likely she would continue to focus on deregulation, at the expense of consumer rights and other protections.
More broadly, she has odd and troubling beliefs around human rights. She has repeatedly taken a strong position defending “dwarf-tossing,” where people with dwarfism wearing velcro are thrown against a wall, arguing that opposition to this practice represents a misguided focus on human dignity that conflicts with the Constitution, personal freedom and American exceptionalism. She also has repeatedly criticized advancements in racial and LGBT rights, including the decriminalization of gay sex and the striking down of the Defense of Marriage Act. Her fundamental beliefs - that unfettered individual freedom (including the ability to abuse and discriminate against others) is more important than protecting the rights of others - are dangerously extreme for one of our most influential Courts.
Call on Senators to vote no on Naomi Rao!
Call Senator Duckworth | DC: 202-224-2854 | Chicago 312-886-3506
Call Senator Durbin | DC: 202-224-2152 | Chicago 312-353-4952
Script: Hi, my name is [NAME] and I’m a constituent from [zip code] and a member of Indivisible. I'm calling to ask [Senator] to oppose Neomi Rao’s nomination to the DC Circuit Court. Rao has a concerning history of prioritizing “personal freedom" above human rights and protective regulations, and I'm concerned her anti-regulation beliefs will weaken individual protections. Thank you for your time and attention.

Action 3: Protecting Immigrant Families Vigil 12/5
The Trump administration has officially proposed a new regulation that would block immigrant families from having a permanent, secure future in the United States. Under the new regulation, immigrants who legally access to basic health supports, safe housing, and healthy food programs could be denied admission to the country or refused a green card. The proposed rule also makes clear that earning low wages, having children, or dealing with a medical condition could be held against immigrants seeking a permanent future in the United States.
In addition to this, there are still many families that will spend the holidays separated because of the cruel administration policies. Join us in standing up for all immigrant families on December 5!
When: Wednesday, December 5 from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Where: Federal Center and Plaza (219 S Dearborn St.)
