Thursday, November 15 - Indivisible on Offense / Georgia State Runoff / Protect IL Healthcare

Actions You Can Take Today

Action 1: Read Indivisible on Offense

This time two years ago, we were lost, angry, and scared (okay, we were pissed. Really pissed). Republicans had taken the House, Senate, and Presidency. They were planning to go big. And we knew the only move we had was to play defense, focus on our own representatives and senators, and never give an inch. In that moment, a group of former Congressional staffers wrote the original Indivisible Guide.

Now that we won a ton of elections(!) in a historic Blue Wave, Indivisible is launching two new, big guides outlining the Indivisible strategy for the next two years (you may have seen the debut on Rachel Maddow!). Indivisible on Offense demystifies what the new Democratic House Majority means, and how you can use it to make your voice heard. Our new state guide describes how to take the Indivisible philosophy and push for state-level policy change with your state representatives.

These new Guides offer a road map for the next two years of our journey. Together, we will pave the way to the post-Trump era. Together, we will win.

Action 2: Phone or Text Bank for Georgia Secretary of State Runoff

Is there another state that needs a Democratic Secretary of State to oversee voting and elections more than Georgia? (Well, maybe Kansas, and Florida, and … never mind.) Georgia is high on the list of places that need a complete overhaul of how they engage voters with elections. Former Congressman John Barrow (D) is facing Brad Raffensperger (R), and you can help by signing up to text or phone bank for his campaign before the runoff election on December 4.

Action 3: Call on Reps to Protect IL Healthcare

Thanks to everyone’s calls, visits to legislators, emails, and social media posts, both HB 4165 (the Do No Harm Healthcare Act) and HB 2624 (the Short Term Limited Duration Health Care Act) passed both the IL House and Senate earlier this year, only to be vetoed by Governor Rauner. However, there is still time to pass these bills in the veto session.

  • HB 4165 gives the IL General Assembly the power to provide a critical check and balance to stop any attempts to weaken or reduce healthcare in Illinois.

  • HB 2624 will help protect consumers by restricting and monitoring short-term health plans sold in Illinois as well as eliminating confusion for those who buy these plans.

In total, these bills will help strengthen healthcare access for Illinois residents. Call on your IL House Rep to pass these bills in the veto session!

Find your rep’s contact info (It's easiest to find your rep's info and appropriate script in the Amplify App)

Script: Hi. My name is _____ and I’m a constituent from [ZIP CODE]. I’m calling to ask [REP] to pass HB 4165 (the Do No Harm Healthcare Act) and HB 2624 (the Short Term Limited Duration Health Care Act) during the beto session. Illinois residents need these bills to safeguard healthcare access and ensure transparency in short-term health plans. Thank you.
