Action 1: Tell Your Reps to Stay Strong on the Dream Act and CHIP

Republicans control the House, the Senate, and the White House. And yet, their inability to govern and their complicity in Trump’s racist attacks on immigrants has caused a government shutdown this week. Get a full breakdown of the shutdown and what is at stake here.

Senators Durbin and Duckworth know that we cannot keep funding the government on a short-term basis without fulfilling our promise to pass the Dream Act to protect 800,000 young people from deportation.

And even though Republicans allowed CHIP funding to expire at the end of September, they are turning the program into a political football and pitting the Dreamers against children in need of health insurance.

Since the shutdown may cause our reps to furlough their staffs, we are encouraging Indivisible members to reach out to reps on social media to tell them to stay strong on passing the Dream Act, fully funding CHIP and ending the Trump Shutdown!

Action 2: Donate to Support the Indivisible Chicago Summit

On Sunday, March 11th, we will have the first all-Chicago Indivisible meeting in over a year! We will gather together to re-energize, re-engage, and re-orient towards taking back the House and Senate in 2018. We will hear from the leaders in progressive, grassroots election organizing and find out how Indivisible Chicago can take action and take back Congress.

We will win in 2018. We will finally have a real check on the executive branch. And you can make a difference.

Speakers include:

and more!

We’re getting more and more excited for this event, but we need YOU to help make it happen. We are currently seeking donations to help cover expenses for renting a venue and A/V equipment. If you have the means, please consider making a donation to Indivisible Chicago.

Stay tuned more more information about the Summit. We will be releasing tickets soon!

Action 3: Listen to the Indivisible Chicago Podcast

Every Sunday, Indivisible Chicago members Tom Moss and Dan Nelson release a new episode of the Indivisible Chicago Podcast. It’s a great way to keep up with the latest news about the Indivisible movement on a local level and to stay plugged in to upcoming efforts around the city.

This week, Tom Moss talks with Amber Smock, Director of Advocacy at Access Living, about the ongoing civil rights fight for people with disabilities. Also, Brian Hess, executive director of the Sports Fans Coalition joins to talk about how the Sinclair Broadcast Group takeover of local media affects sports coverage.

Give it a listen here, and subscribe via iTunes to follow along with new episodes.
