Tools You Can Use

Action 1: Phone Bank Against Trumpcare 3.0 at Evanston or Northwest Side Event (or from Home!)

Although it seems unlikely that the GOP will have the votes to pass their terrible Obamacare repeal bill, we cannot let up the pressure until September 30.  But if you live in a state with two Democratic Senators who oppose the ACA, you may be asking yourself: how can I influence persuadable Republicans in red states who may be on the fence?

The answer is blue state/red state phone banking, where folks in blue states contact voters in a key state with a swing Republican Senator. These folks are your friends—they attended the Women’s March, they’re standing up to #DefendDACA, and/or fight for progressive causes.

Attend the South Side phone bank event TONIGHT from 5:45 p.m. to 8 p.m. Email wpaj@mac.com to RSVP and get the location.

Please bring: your charged laptop or tablet AND your cell phone with chargers for both (just in case). Headphones are very helpful but not required.

Keep up with future Indivisible Chicago phone bank events here, or phone bank from your own home any time with Indivisible’s Trump Care 10 tool.

The tool connects you with swing state voters to remind them why the continued fight against TrumpCare is so important—and why they have particular power in this moment.

You ask them to use their power by calling their senator in opposition to the bill. The call tool will allow you to automatically patch them through to the Senators’ district offices.

It’s super easy: more than 1,000 Indivisibles in blue states made 100,000 phone calls to constituents in our target states in the final two days before the healthcare vote in July. And we won. We can win this time, too. Sign up to phone bank today!

Action 2: Call on Congress to Provide Hurricane Relief for Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands

Hurricane Maria has left much of the Puerto Rico without power, and food and water supplies are running low. The US Virgin islands are also struggling. The American citizens in these US territories need our government to send aid immediately. Illinois’ senators have yet to make a public statement.

Please call your MoCs to help ensure Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands get the aid they need without delay!

Senator Duckworth | DC:  202-224-2854 | Chicago 312-886-3506
Senator Durbin | DC:  202-224-2152 | Chicago 312-353-4952

Script: My name is _____. I live in zip code ______, and am a member of Indivisible Chicago. I'm calling on [MoC name] to pass an aid package to Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands without delay. The damage from Hurricane Maria is severe, and Congress must act quickly to jump-start recovery and prevent unnecessary loss of life. [For Senators:] I’m also urging Senator [Name] to make a public statement about the emergencies in these US territories to help raise awareness.

Action 3: Attend Expert Discussion on Refugees and National Security TOMORROW

Indivisible Pilsen, in collaboration with Welcoming the Stranger and Loop Church, is sponsoring an expert panel discussion on America’s refugee policy, which is undergoing major changes under the Trump administration. The expert-led discussion will focus on the proposed reduction in overall admissions, the program funding levels, and how that impacts our national security, economy, and other areas. This is a chance to learn about the current global refugee situation, the admissions process, the implications of current policy, and what you can do to make your voice heard.

RSVP to attend the event on Wednesday, September 27 at Loop Church (11th E Adams St, 12 floor) from 6:30 p.m. to 8:15 p.m.
