  • Action 1: Donate to Help DACA Recipients Renew Their Applications

  • Action 2: Join the #NoMuslimBanEver Campaign

  • Action 3: Let Agriculture Secretary Perdue Know that the Farm Bill's Conservation Programs are Crucial

Tools You Can Use

Action 1: Donate to the DACA Renewal Emergency Fund

Protection for All Movement is an undocumented-led group of Chicago volunteers organizing to raise funds for the renewal fees of DACA recipients. Their goal is to help DACA recipients who currently qualify for renewal, but do not have the funds, to cover the renewal fee of $495.

Illinois has just over 10,000 people who need to renew their DACA by October 5th. At $495 each for just renewal fees, that's at least $4.95 million dollars. DACA recipients are facing the need to renew their DACA status by October, which is less than a month away! This fee represents a sudden, unexpected cost that many will find it difficult to meet. You can donate now to help those most in need and ensure none of our Illinois DACA recipients risk losing their jobs or end up deported.

Head over to the Protection for All fundraiser and donate now.

Action 2: Join the #NoMuslimBanEver Campaign

Indivisible is a proud partner of the #NoMuslimBanEver campaign. On October 10, the Supreme Court of the United States will be hearing two cases about the Muslim and refugee bans, Trump v. Int'l Refugee Assistance Project and Trump v. Hawaii. The Supreme Court will decide whether the executive order from the Trump Administration that temporarily bans travel from six Muslim-majority countries (Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen) and suspends the refugee admissions process violates the Establishment Clause and Equal Protection Clause of the United States Constitution.

The Muslim and refugee bans are discriminatory, unconstitutional and inhumane in the same vein as the Chinese Exclusion Act, the Japanese American incarceration, and special registration after 9/11. We must remember history and raise our voices, both in the critical weeks before the SCOTUS hearing and in the months ahead. Join us in declaring No. Muslim. Ban. Ever.

Action 3: Protect the Farm Bill’s Conservation Programs

In 2018, a new Farm Bill will take effect. The Farm Bill’s Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) allows the government to partner with farmers, ranchers, and local organizations to implement innovative solutions that improve environmental quality while maintaining agricultural profitability. The program improves millions of acres of wildlife habitat, reduces soil erosion, and reduces greenhouse gases. Farmers and ranchers apply to enroll acreage into the competitive program, and the USDA weighs environmental factors including wildlife enhancement, water quality, soil erosion and air quality when choosing which land is eligible.

Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue recently toured the Midwest to get input on the Farm Bill and Congress will be working on the new bill. Perdue’s department needs to be reminded that the conservation programs matter. Send a message to Secretary Perdue via the Audubon Society.
