Tools You Can Use

Action #1: Call on Senators to Protect the Mueller Investigation

Two bipartisan pairs of senators unveiled legislation to prevent President Trump from firing special counsel Robert Mueller without cause. The two proposals — one from Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.). and Sen. Christopher A. Coons (D-Del.) and the other from Sens. Lindsey O. Graham (R-S.C.) and Cory Booker (D-N.J.) — each seek to check the executive branch’s ability to fire Mueller by putting the question to a three-judge panel. The Graham-Booker bill would require the judges panel to review any attorney general’s decision to fire a special counsel before that firing could take effect, while the Tillis and Coons proposal would let the fired special counsel contest the administration’s decision in court. Both bills help protect the integrity of the special counsel investigation.

Call on our Senators to support these bipartisan bills:

    • Call Senator Duckworth | DC:  202-224-2854 | Chicago 312-886-3506

    • Call Senator Durbin DC:  202-224-2152 | Chicago 312-353-4952

Script: Hi, my name is [NAME] and I'm a constituent from [zip code]. I'm calling to express my support of the bipartisan Graham-Booker and Tillis-Coons bills to protect the integrity of Robert Mueller’s special counsel investigation. I urge Senator [name] to support these bills. Thank you for your hard work answering the phones.

Action #2: Pressure Rauner to Sign HB40 and Guarantee Reproductive Freedom in Illinois

HB-40 removes the Illinois abortion trigger law that would remove a woman's right to choose should Roe v. Wade be overturned in the Supreme Court. Governor Rauner has threatened a veto of HB-40 when it hits his desk. The state legislature is holding onto the bill that has passed both chambers until the governor reverses his stance. On Wednesday, August 9, stand with women across Illinois and demand that Rauner sign HB-40 at a silent protest.

Join the Handmaid’s Protest on Wednesday, August 9. Stop by the Thompson Center (100 W Randolph St, Chicago, Illinois 60601) between 7 a.m and 3 p.m. to keep the pressure on Rauner. RSVP here.

Action #3: Email to End Interstate Voter Crosscheck in Illinois

Did you know that every year for the past 7 years, the Illinois State Board of Elections (SBE) participated in the Interstate Crosscheck program, which has shared your voter registration information plus the last four digits of your social security number with Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach? Kobach has a long history of illegal voter suppression tactics and condoning discriminatory law enforcement practices. Kobach was the primary architect of NSEERS, the original “Muslim registry” created during the Bush Administration. Kobach runs the Interstate Crosscheck program and serves as Vice President of the Presidential Commission on "Election Integrity".

By continuing participation in this program, Illinois is collaborating with Kobach to perpetuate the lie that millions of votes were cast illegally in 2016 and props up a program designed to disenfranchise voters, primarily people of color, in neighboring states. We have a chance to end this program this month.

Take action TODAY by emailing the State Board of Elections. Click the link to read more about the program and find a helpful script for you to email the SBE. If the link doesn't work for you, email webmaster@elections.il.gov and please cc: tech@indivisiblechicago.com so that we can print and deliver all letters at the meeting.
