Action #1: Call Your State Rep to Override Rauner’s Veto of SB1

On Sunday, Illinois state senators voted 38-19 to override the governor's veto of SB1, a bill designed to protect funding for public schools; the Illinois House of Representatives is scheduled to hold a hearing on education funding on Wednesday. If Illinois representatives do not succeed in overriding Rauner's veto, state funding cannot be disbursed to our schools.

The education funding bill could then be subject to compromise deals, such as the recently proposed tax credit scholarship program, which is a form of school vouchers. Voucher programs divert public tax dollars to private/parochial schools, and in so doing, they decrease the funds available for public schools. This is a crucial vote for our state and for Chicago Public Schools.

Script: Hello, I'm calling as a constituent in [zip code #]. I’m calling as a member of Indivisible Chicago to urge [rep’s name] to vote to override Governor Rauner’s veto of SB1. It’s crucial that SB1 passes to protect funding that is badly needed in our public schools.

Action #2: Thank Senators Durbin and Duckworth for Speaking Out Against White Supremacy

As Heather Heyer, the Charlottesville victim, recently said: “If you’re not outraged, you’re not paying attention.” Our senators publicly showed their outrage at the events in Charlottesville, and they need to know that we are listening. Thank them for their words, and ask them to continue to fight back against racism and white nationalism.

Call Senator Duckworth | DC:  202-224-2854 | Chicago 312-886-3506
Call Senator Durbin | DC:  202-224-2152 | Chicago 312-353-4952

Script: Hello, I am a constituent calling from [zip code], and I’m member of Indivisible Chicago. I want to thank Senator [Duckworth/Durbin] for condemning the racist marches and acts of terror that took place in Charlottesville this weekend. These white supremacists assaulted peaceful protesters and a senseless act of terror killed Heather Heyer and injured many others. These behaviors have no place in civil society and represent a trend of rising fascism. Please continue to speak out on matters of racism, hate and violence. Thank you for your time and attention

Action #3: Email the Illinois State Board of Elections (SBE) to Discuss Crosscheck at August 22 Meeting

We have learned that the State Board of Elections has decided not to put the issue of Crosscheck on August meeting agenda, despite an outcry from the public and demands from our State and U.S. Representatives. This is incredibly disappointing. As a result, we are asking our members to continue to send emails to the SBE to demand that this issue be taken up. If you already sent an email - thank you! - but please take action again and have no doubt, we will be calling for more actions leading up to the August 22nd board meeting!
