Action #1: Spread the Word on Facebook and Call to Protect Voter Data
Kris Kobach and the so-called Presidential Commission on Election Integrity have sent a SECOND letter to the Illinois State Board of Elections (SBE) demanding data for all registered voters.
The Facebook algorithm can help us spread the word to thousands more people, but we have to tell it that our posts are important by giving them lots of likes and shares. Like, comment on and share it our most recent Facebook post to your Indivisible group or to your personal wall.
Then, if you haven’t already, call the Illinois State Board of Elections (SBE) at 217-782-4141; when given the option, press 0 to speak with a person. You will hear a recorded message that the Board plans to take this issue up at their August 22nd meeting. Continue the call until you speak with a person.
You might be told to email firstname.lastname@example.org. That's great--do that, too (see our email script)! Emails will be counted and considered on August 22nd at their meeting, but in the meantime, we need them to hear us before the meeting. Calls get their attention!
SCRIPT: Hi, my name is ___________ and I'm a registered voter in Illinois. I'm calling to ask the Board of Elections to continue to deny the Trump Administration’s illegitimate request for voter registration data. The people running the Commission, such as Kris Kobach, have a history misrepresenting data to justify making it harder for people to vote. Voting is the foundation of our democracy and Illinois should not collaborate with any nationalist efforts to undermine our democracy.
Action #2: Fight Rape Culture at SlutWalk 2017 TOMORROW
Organizations including Gay Liberation Network and CommunityCave Chicago are coming together for SlutWalk 2017, an event dedicated to showing solidarity with and support for victims of sexual assault while fighting against our culture's toxic policing of sexuality. Chicago's SlutWalk is the oldest continuous SlutWalk in the United States.
The event takes place on Saturday, August 12 at 808 N Lake Shore Dr, Chicago, IL 60614 from noon to 4 p.m. Get more info and RSVP here.
Action #3: Submit a Public Comment Against Keystone XL by 5 p.m. TONIGHT
The Trump administration approved the presidential permit for the Keystone XL pipeline and reversed the decision of the Obama administration. The good news is this fight is far from over, and we can win. TransCanada must still get approval to route the pipeline through Nebraska and the Nebraska Public Service Commission (PSC) is taking public comments now.
You can fight back by urging the Nebraska PSC to block the Keystone XL pipeline once and for all. Today is your LAST CHANCE! Click here to submit your comment by the deadline tonight at 5 p.m.
