Action #1: Thank Our Senators for Fighting for the ACA

The healthcare fight continues in the Senate, but the Democrats are helping to slow down the debate to shed as much light as possible on the secretive, undemocratic process that the GOP is using to roll back the ACA. We need to encourage them to keep it up!

Action #2: Support Our Transgender Servicemembers on Social Media

Yesterday was also a rough day for LGBT rights, with the President’s announcement that the 15,500+ brave transgender servicemembers in our military will no longer be able to serve openly. It's an important time to show public support for transgender rights, especially since Congress has the authority to overturn such a ban.

Here's how you can help:

  • Send a tweet using #TransRightsAreHumanRights  or #transban
  • Retweet Indivisible Chicago's statement on the issue
  • Write a post on Facebook,  either on your own wall or in one of our Indivisible groups, in support of transgender people. Here's some ideas on what to share:
    • This New York Times article with quotes from transgender servicemembers.
    • This Reuters story
    • Share this photo:

Action #3: Submit a Public Comment to Ban Fracking in Illinois

If you have not yet filed a comment opposing fracking in Illinois, the deadline had been extended to tomorrow: Friday, July 28. The Woolsey Operating Company LLC has submitted the first fracking permit request for Illinois. The Illinois DNR's Office of Oil and Gas is currently accepting public comments via email regarding this permit application.

E-mail your comments to, making sure to include the Review Number (HVHHF-000001) in both the subject line and in the text of your e-mail. In your comments, include reasons for your opposition to this application, and to fracking in Illinois. There is evidence that fracking contributes to both toxic air and water pollution in nearby communities. The methane leakage produced by fracking is a significant contributor to climate change. Get more information on submitting a public comment.

Why Today's Actions Are Important

We’re all focused on healthcare, but attacks on other many other fronts continue--including LGBT rights, fracking, and climate change, not to mention voting rights, immigration, and many more. We need to “walk and chew gum at the same time” to fight for what we believe in. Thank you for all that you do!

Still fired up? Don’t forget to RSVP for the Our Lives On the Line Rally downtown this Saturday, July 29!
