Tuesday, July 18th - Indivisible National Day of Action. Phone bank and rally

Actions you can take today

  • Action #1: Phone bank to Save ACA

  • Action #2: Attend Illinois Health Care Covenant at Chicago Temple

Tools you can use

Note: Mitch McConnell lost the votes for BCRA, the Senate Health Care Bill that would repeal and replace Obamacare. Now he's moving to full repeal without replace. This would be catastrophic! This would lead to 32 million uninsured by 2026 and 100% premium increases. This is red alert time.

Action #1: Phone bank to Save ACA

We are once again going to phone bank to call Ohio and West Virginia voters and ask them to call Senators Rob Portman and Shelley Capito. We have 5 separate phone banking sessions set up for today, and we may still be able to add more. See all the events here, but keep checking the link as we will be adding more.

Not sure if it's worth your time? Last night, in just two phone banking sessions, we had almost 500 calls and 120 commitments! That's 120 people calling their Senators today that wouldn't have otherwise. That's a huge impact! Please check here to find a phone banking session in your area.

Action #2: Attend Illinois Health Care Covenant at Chicago Temple

The Chicago Faith based community is holding an inter-faith service to call for Governor Rauner to do the moral thing and speak out against the cuts to Medicaid that hurt children, the elderly, and the poor. Please register here to let us know you're going and share the event.

Indivisible Chicago will not have a visible presence at this event with a large banner as this is an event being lead by the faith-based community, but we are encouraging members to attend to help put pressure on Governor Rauner.

Why Today's Action is Important

Action #1: Phone bank to Save ACA

The Senate Repeal and Replace looks dead (although where have we heard that before), but now McConnell is talking about going for full repeal without replace. This would be a disaster. Take a look at these states compiled by Jennifer O'Brien (from CBO, January 2017):

  • Coverage loss: 18 million more uninsured by 2018, 27 million in 2020, and 32 million by 2026
  • Premium Increase: 20 to 25 percent higher in 2018, 50 percent higher in 2020, and 100 percent by 2026
  • People living in areas with no Marketplace insurers: 10 percent higher in 2018, 50 percent higher in 2020, 75 percent higher in 2026

This can't happen. We need to keep pushing. Today we can attend a rally to put pressure on Governor Rauner and phone bank to put pressure on Republican Senators.
