We are one week from the April recess, a two week period starting on the 10th where our members of congress will be in town. Thanks to the hard work of our District 5 group, Indivisible will be hosting Congressman Mike Quigley and Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky for a town hall.
Indivisible IL-5 Town Hall
Indivisible IL-5 is hosting a Town Hall in cooperation with Mike Quigley and Jan Schakowsky. We rallied outside his office, called for a town hall, and he agreed! So let's come out and show him how much we care.

Victory on HB780, Illinois House bill to require 5 years tax returns
HB 780, the Illinois House bill requiring 5 years tax returns to get on the Illinois ballot for president, has passed subcommittee and is gaining steam! Indivisible Chicago was responsible for pushing over 1200 witness slips supporting this legislation against just a couple opposed. Due to all the hard work calling and lobbying from our group, the bill has moved out of committee and will move to a floor vote!
Let's make sure all of our state Representatives are voting for this bill. Check here and see if your state Representative is a co-sponsor of this bill. If not, give them a call and ask them to vote for this bill and join on as a co-sponsor. You can find your state Representative's number at this link.
Script: Hi, my name is ___________ and I'm a constituent of state Representative ___________. I'm calling to ask Representative ____________ to vote for HB780, the bill requiring 5 years tax returns to be on the Illinois ballot, and to sign on as a co-sponsor.
The Senator Bill requiring 5 years tax returns, SB982, is up for vote next week. It has 15 co-sponsors but it could have a lot more. Take a look at the list of co-sponsors. If your state Senator isn't on it, call them and ask them to join as a co-sponsor and vote for SB982. This is an easy decision. All we are asking for is transparency, and given the situation in Washington, there is no question this is the right thing to do.

Russian Meddling Follow up
We called on Thursday, March 30th, asking our Representatives to join Congressman Quigley and speak up on Russia and not stop pushing for an independent investigation into Russia's meddling in our election. Well, that's afternoon Representative Gutierrez and Senator Durbin stepped up.
We still haven't heard from any of our other Representatives (note: Representative Davis recently lost his son so go easy) or Senator Duckworth. Let's call them and ask them to keep the pressure up and demand an independent investigation into Russia's involvement with our election.
Action: Call your Representative and ask him or her to keep calling for an independent investigation into Russia's collusion with the White House.
Script: Hi, my name is __________ and I am a constituent of Congressman/woman ____________. I'm calling to ask him/her to be vocal in calling for an independent investigation into Russia's possible collusion with the White House and for Congressman Nunes (noo-nes) to recuse himself from the investigation.
