Friday, February 10th - Call on the Cabinet - You Pick 'em

So many options to decline on the cabinet, pick one you like to call on all three. If you call on all three, make separate calls. Yesterday we called about Tom Price.  If you haven't called about that yet, go ahead and do that today.  He should be the next up for a vote and he's just a terrible pick.

No on Mnuchin

Another pick we haven't heard anything on from our Senators on is Steve Mnuchin. This man is a predatory lender and also failed to disclose 100 million dollars in assets.  On the later issue, he claimed he misunderstood the question on the questionnaire. That's not something that gives me great faith in a potential Treasury Secretary.  Call and ask both Durbin and Duckworth to vote no on Steve Mnuchin.

No on Perry

Rick Perry is a woefully under qualified pick for Secretary of Energy.  This is a man who would be in charge of everything from our nuclear arsenal to funding for Fermi National Lab out in Batavia.  We would be going from a nuclear physicist serving as our Secretary of Energy to someone who struggled through Animal Husbandry. It should be a clear no on Perry, but of course we thought that on DeVos.

No on Puzder

Puzder for Labor Secretary is a terrible pick.  He doesn't believe that labor should have any rights. Puzder has called his workers the "best of the worst".  Chuck Schumer has called for the withdrawal of this nomination.  Call and asked the Senators to vote no.

(btw, I haven't forgotten about Scott Pruitt.  Durbin and Duckworth have both come out strong against him and, after their vote, we'll call and thank them)

llinois Senate Bill Requiring Presidential Candidates Release Tax Returns

Putting this up again today in case anyone missed it yesterday.  This would be a fantastic thing for Illinois to do.

I love this.  Illinois Senator Daniel Biss has put forth a bill (SB982) requiring that any candidate on the Illinois ballot release 5 years of tax returns. We are now one of a dozen or more states filling similar legislation.  This is what our current president has done: require codification of norms that had always been enforced through human decency.  Also, it shows the power of the state and why we are going to fight so hard to take back the states in 2018. Full text of the bill is here.

Let's make sure our state Senators know we support this bill.  If you live in Biss's district, give him a call thanking him and letting him know you support his bill.  If not, call your state senator and let him or her know you support this bill and ask them to throw their support behind it. Let's use our state to fight back against our Washington nightmare.
