Action 1: Call on Senators to Condemn Trump's Announcements on Jerusalem

On Wednesday, President Trump formally recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and announced his intention to move the U.S. embassy to the city, reversing more than half a century of American policy, undermining the prospects of a just and fair Israeli-Palestinian peace brokered by the U.S., and drawing rebukes from Europe, China, the Middle East, and even the Vatican.

While Senators such as Bernie Sanders and Dianne Feinstein have criticized the decision, other Democrats have stayed quiet, and some, such as Chuck Schumer and Ben Cardin, have even expressed support--all this despite 81 percent of Democratic voters opposing the move.

Call our Senators and ask them to stand with the international community and speak out against this dangerous shift in policy.

Call Senator Durbin | DC:  202-224-2152 | Chicago 312-353-4952

Script: Hi, my name is ______________ from [zip code], and I’m a member of Indivisible Chicago. I'm calling to express my concern about President Trump's announcements on U.S. policy toward Jerusalem. His reversal of decades of foreign policy undermines the prospects for a just peace and has been condemned throughout the international community, and by Democrats such as Bernie Sanders and Dianne Feinstein. Will Senator ______ issue a statement condemning Trump's decision?

Action 2: Call on Senator Duckworth to take the Dreamer Pledge

On September 5, Trump announced that he was terminating the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. This Obama-era program provides relief from deportation for an estimated 800,000 young immigrants. Because Trump terminated DACA, over 10,000 Dreamers are estimated to have already lost their protections, and nearly 1,000 more will lose DACA each week and become vulnerable to Trump’s deportation force.

There is bipartisan support for the Dream Act in both the Senate and House. And the bill enjoys massive support from the American public. Now that Donald Trump has yanked protection away from immigrant youth, it is now up to Congress to take action. Every day that goes by is a day in which the lives of immigrant youth remain at risk.

Senator Durbin, one of the cosponsors of the Dream Act, has already taken the Dreamer Pledge. The pledge states that Senators will only commit to vote on a “continuing resolution” that has the Dream Act attached. Call Senator Duckworth and tell her: a vote on a continuing resolution without the Dream Act is a vote to deport Dreamers -- no Dream, no CR!

Call Senator Duckworth | DC:  202-224-2854 | Chicago 312-886-3506

Script:

Caller: Hello! My name is [name] and I’m calling from [place in state]. Could you please tell me whether Senator Duckworth supports protecting Dreamers as part of the Continuing Resolution?

Staffer: Senator Duckworth doesn’t think that a legislative fix for DACA is an emergency; the president gave us until March to address this program, and we have more urgent concerns right now.

Caller: There are at least six senators and dozens of representatives— including Republicans—who disagree with you. Because Trump terminated DACA, over 10,000 Dreamers are estimated to have already lost their protections, and nearly 1,000 more will lose DACA each week and become vulnerable to Trump’s deportation force. For those young people and their families, this is an emergency and we must take this opportunity to protect them by including the DREAM Act in the Continuing Resolution.

Staffer: I’ll pass your thoughts along to the Senator.

Caller: Yes please do, and please take down my contact information so you can let me know what the Senator decides to do.
