Tools You Can Use

Action 1: Phone Bank Against Trump’s Tax Bill

Doug Jones’ victory changes the game on the tax scam. Republicans will try to rush the tax bill through before Jones is seated and do whatever they can to stall seating him. Mitch McConnell is doing everything he can to ram this thing through and, with a new Democratic Senator headed to DC soon, he’s feeling the heat.

The Senate could vote as early as TODAY, with the House close behind them. Amp up the pressure on these targets from our blue state! You can phone bank from home as much as you want every day from 9 am to 9 pm local time until the tax scam fight is over.

Action 2: Demand that Congress Use a Congressional Review Act to Protect Net Neutrality

The FCC’s radical and foolish action to reverse network neutrality protections means that we have lost an important battle in the war for an open internet. But that war is far from over.

The fight now shifts to Congress, where pro-network neutrality members will press to use something called the Congressional Review Act to undo this hasty and misguided action. The CRA is a relatively new tool that allows Congress to reverse regulatory actions within 60 legislative days of their enactment. It was used for ill in March 2017 when Trump supporters in Congress voted to wipe out FCC privacy protections that prevented the telecoms from selling our browsing history and other private information about our internet usage. But now Congress can use this tool for good by similarly reversing the FCC's (in this case, bad) action. Every American should press their members of Congress to support such a reversal via the CRA.

So far, 20 senators have signed on to Sen. Ed Markey's (MA) resolution to reverse the FCC's Net Neutrality decision, including Senator Durbin. We need to keep the pressure up on Duckworth and our House reps!

Script: Hi, I’m [NAME] from [ZIP CODE]. I’m a member of Indivisible Chicago and I'm calling to ask [MoC] to use a Congressional Review Act to overturn the FCC’s decision to kill Net Neutrality. Congress has only 60 days to use the CRA, so they need to act quickly. Preserving an open internet is crucial for fair and equal access to the resources and information available on it. Thank you.

Action 3: Join the Youth Led March for a Clean DREAM Act

Join ICIRR and its membership for a rally and march pushing Senators Duckworth and Durbin and other members of the Illinois Delegation to stand strong and get a clean DREAM Act passed out of Congress this year!
