Action 1: Call on Congress to Protect the Mueller Investigation

Yesterday, we learned a former Trump policy adviser pleaded guilty to lying about his communication with Russian agents during the campaign—and that former campaign chair Paul Manafort and his associate Rick Gates were charged with "conspiracy against the United States" in a 12-count indictment, as part of Robert Mueller's investigation into collusion between the Trump team and Russia during the 2016 election.

This is proof that Robert Mueller's investigation is working—and all the more reason to be concerned that Trump, who has repeatedly criticized and even threatened the investigation, might make a move to fire Mueller or otherwise interfere with his work. In fact, Trump has already attempted to minimize the charges.

Congress has the power to safeguard this investigation, and they must act urgently to do so. All senators should support bipartisan bills that would block Trump from firing Mueller. The two pieces of legislation in the Senate are: Graham-Booker (S. 1735) and Tillis-Coons (S. 1741). The legislation in the House is: H.R. 3771 Jones-Conyers.

Call your members of Congress today to demand that they protect the Mueller investigation.

Sample script: Hello, I’m [name] from [zip code] and I’m a member of Indivisible Chicago. The American people deserve answers about Russian meddling in our elections—and whether or not President Trump, his campaign or his associates were involved or obstructed justice to cover it up.

[For Senators:] I’d like Senator [Durbin/Duckworth] to co-sponsor the Graham-Booker bill (S. 1735) and the Tillis-Coons (S. 1741) bills. These bipartisan pieces of legislation will protect Mueller’s investigation and that of future Special Counsels.

[For Representatives:] I’d like Representative [name] to co-sponsor  H.R. 3771, the Jones-Conyers bill. This bipartisan legislation will protect Mueller’s investigation and that of future Special Counsels.

Action 2: URGENT - Stand Up to Sexual Harassment in Springfield

In the wake of an open letter from women in Illinois politics that garnered widespread public and media attention, Michael Madigan has introduced SB 402. This bill would require every lawmaker and state employee to undergo annual sexual harassment training. Registered lobbyists would also have to complete a sexual harassment training program provided or approved by the secretary of state.

This bill would be a step in the right direction for Illinois for fighting the systemic problem of sexual harassment. This bill is up for a debate TODAY. Please sign the witness slip by 10 a.m. as a proponent of the bill to show your support.

Action 3: Phone Bank at Home to Get Out the Vote for Virginia Election

For too long, Democrats have been ignoring state politics and have allowed Republicans to take over both state legislatures and the Governor's offices. Out of 50 states, 34 of them have Republican governors. We have to turn the tide, starting with the 2017 Virginia Governor's race.

Virginians go to the polls on November 7th. Let's make sure the turnout in 2017 is strong enough to put us over the top. Register for Indivisible GOTV tool, pick a shift, and make get-out-the-vote calls from the comfort of your home!
