Tools You Can Use

Action 1: Watch and Share ACA Signup Webinar

Consumers will see fundamental changes this year when it comes to signing up for 2018 Affordable Care Act marketplace insurance, from a shorter open enrollment period to regular planned outages at Healthcare.gov. What’s more, fewer people will be available to help consumers understand the costs and benefits of different plans, due to federal funding reductions to navigator programs.

Yesterday, the Kaiser Family Foundation held a web briefing focusing on key information for individuals shopping for marketplace coverage in Illinois, Michigan, and Wisconsin.

The session offered a framework for understanding premiums and financial assistance in marketplaces in these three states, along with an overview of how many insurers are offering plans. It outlined important new rules that could affect coverage for individuals and their families, and provided state-specific insights on what consumers can expect and where they can go for help.

Watch the webinar any time and share it with your friends on social media to ensure as many people as possible know what they need to do to get healthcare in 2018!

Action 2: DEADLINE SUNDAY - Sign Up for ACA Enrollment Reminder Thunderclap on 10/29

The 2018 ACA Open Enrollment dates are November 1 - December 15, 2017. Trump has not only shortened the window to enroll; he has also slashed the advertising budget by 90%. We need to get the word out to people to sign up for 2018 coverage during the open enrollment dates.

Sign up for the Indivisible "Thunderclap" campaign, where a huge volume of tweets and Facebook posts will go out together on Sunday, October 29. The first campaign on 9/9 got over 2K supporters with a total audience of nearly 5.9 million people.

Please sign up and then share the link with your social media audience on Facebook and Twitter, and encourage others to do the same. It just takes a moment to do it, and it will have a huge impact on getting the word out about the open enrollment dates. Sign up here!

Action 3: Submit a Public Comment to the FCC to Stop the Sinclair-Tribune Merger

Sinclair Broadcasting, a right-wing-leaning media company, has been working to acquire Tribune Media in order to expand its reach. Already the nation's largest TV broadcast company, Sinclair's potential merger would extend its reach to a colossal 72% of U.S. households.

The FCC is pausing its review of Sinclair Broadcast Group’s proposed merger with Tribune Media to allow more time for the filing of public comments. The FCC is more than halfway through its 180-day review timeline for the merger, which would create a broadcasting giant with 223 TV stations serving 108 markets, including 39 of the top 50.

The FCC’s Media Bureau said they are pausing the review until Thursday, November 2, so there is still time to submit a public comment to speak out against this merger.

To leave a comment, you’ll have to go to this site, click “+ Express,” and then fill out the form it opens up to. Make sure you leave the proceeding number “17-179” in place, as that’s what ties it to the Sinclair proposal. Also, be aware that everything filed is public, so others will be able to see your name and address.

Suggested comments (please edit to make these your own): I strongly oppose the merger of Sinclair Broadcasting and Tribune Media. The merger will expand Sinclair's reach beyond its legal audience cap of 39% to a massive 72% of US households. The FCC should not bend rules or roll back regulations to allow Sinclair to dominate the US airwaves.
