Action 1: Ask Senators to Oppose GOP Tax Plan

On Tuesday, the Washington Post reported that Republicans have managed to jump over an early hurdle to their draconian tax reform, garnering the support of Sen. McCain and Sen. Thad Cochran, who returned to Washington from not being in the hospital.

From IndivisibleGuide.com: "Republicans will stop at nothing to jam the Trump Tax Scam through the Senate. It will be just like TrumpCare: secret negotiations and every procedural trick they can think of to pass it with speed and secrecy. One of the best things Democrats did during the TrumpCare fight to draw attention to the disaster of TrumpCare was withhold consent."

We expect to be in contact with our MoCs many times as this fight proceeds. Today, we are calling on our Senators to once again do everything in their power to slow and stop the GOP tax plan.

Senator Duckworth | DC:  202-224-2854 | Chicago 312-886-3506
Senator Durbin | DC:  202-224-2152 | Chicago 312-353-4952

Script: Hello! My name is [name] and I’m calling from [zip code]. I’m calling to ask that the Senator do everything in his/her power to fight the GOP tax plan. Can you share the Senator's strategy for fighting the plan? Will the Senator commit to using every procedural tool available—including withholding consent if necessary—to defeat the Trump Tax Scam?

Action 2: Tell Congress to Reauthorize CHIP Immediately

The Children’s Health Insurance Program ensures nearly 9 million children have health insurance. CHIP is a federal-state partnership where the federal government provides most—or in some cases, all—of the funding necessary to cover uninsured children. Federal funding was increased as part of the Affordable Care Act.

No one thought Congress would let CHIP funding expire on September 30, but that’s exactly what they did. Republicans invested so much time and energy in making one last push to pass TrumpCare, that they couldn’t find time to reauthorize a program giving 9 million kids health insurance. Let that sink in.

If Congress doesn’t act soon, states will start running out of money. Some states have already stopped taking new applications for CHIP. Call your members of Congress and demand that they reauthorize this vital program immediately to ensure no child loses their healthcare.

Script: Hello! My name is [name] and I’m calling from [zip code]. I’m calling to ask that the [MoC] support reauthorization of the Children’s Health Insurance Program immediately. Our state may run out of funding soon, so it’s really important that Congress do this immediately. I appreciate [MoC]’s support.

Action 3: Police Board Mobilization for Laquan McDonald 10/19 in Bronzeville

Chicago remembers Laquan McDonald. Nearly three years after his gruesome murder, we remember the video, the 16 shots, and the CPD cover-up.

The next police board hearing is on Thursday, October 19, the day before the three-year anniversary of the murder of Laquan McDonald. Join the Chicago Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression as we pack the room and let the police board know that the people are still watching. We STILL DEMAND justice for Laquan!

RSVP to the event on Thursday, October 19 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at 3510 S Michigan Ave.
